The Only Good Candidate

Yes, yes, many of you will find his words "Americanist," but Dr. Paul is the only candidate who makes any sense at all on anything. He's against the Iraq War, against immigration, and against abortion. In other words, he's like us -- whatever it is, he's against it. That's why he's called "Dr. No" (he's a medical doctor who votes "no" on everything). Many of our readers may oppose the U.S. Constitution that he defends, but it enshrines into law a much better system than that of the current regime.

I'm still for Sen. Brownback, who although determined to win the Iraq mess we're in, will likely do all he can to avid any new foreign entanglements. I do not see why so many Americans believe our powerful Nation should not at least try to influence other nations in the direction of justice. Plus, he's Catholic and super pro-life. I admit, though, that Rep. Paul has better border security and anti-UN credentials, so I consider him about second best (along with Reps. Tancredo and Hunter).

I would gladly hearken to someone like Dr. Paul, even though I believe neither in the U.S. Constitution nor in the principles the thing is founded on. It is like you say, he's better than the current clown or any other clowns whether they have R's or D's after their name.

My problem with Brownback is what are his anti-UN credentials? How would he solve the budget problem? He has presided over his colleagues out of control spending for the last 7 years and said little of it until just now when he is hoping to toss his hat into the presidential ring. What is his economic philosophy? How does he view our right to private productive property which is currently being edged away, little by little by big business? Given papal teaching in Rerum Novarum and Quadragesimo Anno I believe an issue like that is at least equal with issues like abortion. In fact abortion is almost moot if we are reduced to a slave class in the face of a service based economy given that all our manufacturing jobs are going to East Beijing.

I wish there was a way to get a coalition of strong third party types together. We need a party that can begin at the grass roots level, to be recognizable. The two parties right now are just two sides of the same coin. A third party operating at the local level across the country could gain attention, and have a real chance at winning elections at the state level. If they had a strong presence in at least half the states a third party candidate is more palatable and less likely to split voting blocks the way they do now with virtually no chance of winning.

Yes, Athanasius, that's a good point on Brownback. Other than Dr. Paul, who else has shown any kind of a spine on any of the things we would care about in our government?

How can you be Catholic and insular at the same time? You are supposed to be a member of the Universal Church not some newly-minted protestant sect in some Oklahoma backwood.

Aprove the war and immigration and oppose abortion.

Oh, and take notice of what happens beyond the shores of the US or it will come back and whack you.

Opposing the Iraq War and wanting our nation to protect its borders makes us insular? If anything, the policies of the Bush administration have done more to alienate us from the rest of the world than any other administration in years.

The desire to keep our military here is often called these days "insular" or isolationist. It is one of the most mind boggling things. If we keep trading with other nations, traveling and letting them come here, how are we isolationist by saying we want the U.S. military to stop policing the world and police our borders instead? We have an invasion in Southern California (where I reside) while our military is toppling regimes that pose no real threat to us, MS-13 is running drugs across our border with Mexican para-military, yet no one seems to care. Hmmmm, yeah, too isolationist. We should embrace our Mexican and Guatamalan criminal drug lord neighbors in friendship, while we kill Arabs who while destestable in themselves pose no real threat to America or Americans.

It seems that this Dr. Ron Paul has a very important understanding. However, I think that he is misguided on two issues.

1. Our International Policies. In a certain sense, the American International Relations are like many things that "have a good idea" but bad results, dues to the imperfect development of them. Many believe that the inception of an idea that is good makes it super-law, where, in fact, it is only the first small step in a large development. To abrogate the policy entirely or to abdicate our responsibilities outright would be a large mistake. However, it is not to say that the American foreign policies are not without need of reform (as is America).

2. "Returning to the dark ages of dictatorship..."
For a man who is cursing rhetorical propaganda employed without logic or phenomenal evidence, he wields it well, himself!

America was never under dictatorship. It may have had a bit of injustice done to it, but dictatorship, hardly! It is upsetting to consider that monarchy is equated to dictatorship. Moreover, dictatorship is not oppressive by necessity, unless one is employing its use in the sense of modernist dictators- then yes, I would say it is. However, America never lived under such a government (formally, at least).

The dark ages were only named such due to the lack of writing. They were a time of professed ingenuity and invention. It is the lackadaisical and uncensored publishing and reading "new things" that has caused the socialist dictatorships (for which America is headed due to the inherent problems of capitalism [Capitalism failed over 80 years ago and it was only 20 years ago that Stalinist/Leninist Communism failed in similar fasion]).

But, I do support the return of private property. This guy isn't with the perfect solution, but is a step in the right direction.

May God bless you and keep you.
May the Holy Spirit guide you.
Holy Mary protect you and pour the graces of Her Son upon you this Lenten Season.
